purdy SB MVP

  • Brock Purdy’s Super Bowl MVP odds have climbed from +900 to +650 after the Wild Card round.
  • Purdy had one of the most impressive playoff debuts ever last week as the 49ers wallopped the Seattle Seahawks in the Wild Card round.
  • San Francisco has opened as the -3.5 point favorites to beat the Dallas Cowboys in Saturday’s Divisional Round.

Brock Purdy has gone from Mr. Irrelevant to being one of the top Super Bowl LVII MVP betting favorites.

The 23-year old last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft found himself in the spotlight after the 49ers lost backup QB Jimmy Garropolo to an injury in Week 13. Six starts later, Purdy is in the thick of the Super Bowl MVP race with the 49ers of course one of the 8 teams left in the NFL postseason cast.

One of the Most Impressive Playoff Debuts Ever

Last weekend, Purdy had one of the most impressive playoff debuts ever when he led the 49ers to a 41-23 victory over the Seattle Seahawks. In that game, Purdy threw for 332 yards, the second-most ever by a rookie in the playoffs after Russell Wilson’s 385 yards in a loss to the Atlanta Falcons ten years ago. Purdy also became the first rookie to account for 4 total TDs in a playoff game when he added a rushing score to his three passing TDs.

With Purdy delivering another spectacular performance, the 49ers picked up where they left off during the regular season, winning their 11th consecutive game. For Purdy, it was also his sixth win in as many starts since replacing an injured Jimmy Garropolo in a Week 13 win over the Miami Dolphins.

Since his first NFL start, Purdy has ranked 2nd among NFL QBs with 12 touchdown passes, 3rd overall in passing yards with 1,245, 2nd in yards per attempt at 9.4, and first in passer rating at 119.4. He has won the Rookie of the Week award twice and was named the Rookie of the Month for December.

The 49ers now head to the Divisional Round as -3.5 point spread favorites to beat the visiting Dallas Cowboys. The 49ers are also the current betting favorites to win the NFC Conference at the BetOnline App at +145 odds, slightly ahead of the NFC’s top-seeded Philadelphia Eagles who are at +165 odds. San Francisco’s Super Bowl LVII odds of +375 is also the third-shortest at the same sportsbook, behind only the Kansas City Chiefs’ +300 and the Buffalo Bills’ +350.

Super Bowl MVP Odds

With the 49ers rising in the NFC and Super Bowl odds boards, so has Purdy in the Super Bowl MVP betting arena. Purdy opened with the 4th best odds to win the Pete Rozelle trophy at +800, the same odds as Cicincinnati’s Joe Burrow. Only Patrick Mahomes (+375), Josh Allen (+500), and Jalen Hurts (+650) were ahead of him when the Super Bowl LVII MVP betting boards debuted. But after wild card weekend, the odds have shifted.

Mahomes has improved from +375 to +325 while Allen has shortened from +500 to +400. But the biggest mover after wild card weekend was Purdy who rose to third from +900 to +650, catching the idle Hurts at the third spot. Burrow meanwhile, also improved but from +900 to +850 as the 5th player on the latest list.

These odds will change again this weekend when the dust settles after the Divisional Round. The 8-player list will be down to 4 but if the oddsmakers are correct in who wins the games this weekend, it will either be Josh Allen or Joe Burrow who will be removed from the current Top 5 as the Bills play the Bengals on Sunday.

Mahomes’ Chiefs are listed as the biggest favorites in the Divisional Round at -8 points against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Meanwhile, Hurts’ Eagles are at -7.5 points versus the New York Giants at BetOnline while Purdy’s 49ers are listed at -3.5 points opposite the Dallas Cowboys, currently the closest odds in the four Divisional Round matchups. On the other hand, Allen’s Bills are at -5 points versus Burrow’s Bengals.
