- Russell Wilson has opened as the +400 favorite to win the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year award next season.
- Wilson is having his worst season ever with only 13 passing TDs while getting sacked 53 times.
- Jets RB Breece Hall and 49ers QB Trey Lance are next at +700 odds apiece.
You know you are having one terrible season when the sportsbooks list you as the betting favorite to win the Comeback Player of the Year next season even if you are not coming off an injury.
Well, that’s the interesting case of Rusell Wilson who has opened as the +400 betting favorite at BetOnline.ag to win the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year next season.
Wilson is in his first season with the Denver Broncos after being traded to the team during the offseason. Denver gave up three players and four premium draft picks, including what currently stands as the 3rd overall pick of the April 27 NFL Draft hoping that he will get the team over the hump. Safe to say, Russ didn’t even get the Broncos near the hump as he is having a disappointing 2022 campaign.
Russ to Win CPOY Award and Broncos to win 11 Games
"My sports wish for 2023 is for quarterback Russell Wilson to win comeback player of the year and the Broncos to win 11 games." https://t.co/wLXkQtFYqa

One Denver news outfit is wishing that Russell Wilson wins the 2023 Comeback Player of the Year award and the Denver Broncos win 11 games next season.
The Broncos entered the current campaign given a 9.5-game win total. However, the Broncos have come up short big time, and are just 4-12 SU with two games left to play in the regular season. Meanwhile, Russell Wilson – who was touted as the missing piece of Denver’s championship puzzle, has been well, just missing.
The 34-year-old Wilson is having the worst season of his 11-year NFL career and with still two games left to play, it could get even worse. The Super Bowl XLVIII champion has thrown a career-low 13 TDs this season while getting sacked 53 times, the most in a single season in his NFL tenure. Wilson’s current QBR of 35.6 is also easily the worst of his career and it’s not that he’s coming off an injury or is playing with one.
Wilson played in 14 games last season for the Seahawks and in the same number of games played so far this year, he threw almost twice as many TD passes in 2021 and had nearly half of his current INTs this year.
Terrible as it is right now, there are still many who believe that this year is an exception not the norm in Russell Wilson’s performance. There are those, the oddsmakers at BetOnline.ag included, who believe that he is going to bounce back strong next season. With a performance terrible as this year’s, it would be easy to top it next year.
Opening Odds for Comeback Player of the Year of Next Season
Who'll be #NFL Comeback Player of NEXT season? (@betonline_ag)
Russell Wilson (+400)
Breece Hall (7/1)
Trey Lance (7/1)
Kyler Murray (15/2)
Matt Stafford (15/2)
Javonte Williams (8/1)
Cooper Kupp (10/1)
Matt Ryan (12/1)
Zach Wilson (14/1)
Carson Wentz (18/1)
Calvin Ridley (20/1)— Jaime Eisner (@JaimeEisner) January 2, 2023
Next in the BetOnline odds board is New York Jets running back Breece Hall at +700 who was the Offensive Rookie of the Year betting favorite when he suffered an ACL injury that forced him to miss the rest of the season. If Hall plays next season the way he started this year, there’s a good chance he is in the Comeback Player of the Year mix.
Also listed at +700 is San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance. Lance was the 49ers’ 3rd overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and after spending his first season on the bench, he was named as the team’s starter for the 2022 NFL season. Unfortunately, Lance appeared in only two games after suffering a season-ending ankle injury. Lance will most probably be San Francisco’s QB1 next season and with the minutes, he will get the chance to win the CPOY award.
Next on the list are Matthew Stafford and Kyler Murray at +750 who like Russ are coming off a disappointing 2022 campaign but are expected to return to form next season. Denver Broncos running back Javonte Williams is next at +800 after his 2022 campaign ended in injury. Super Bowl LVI MVP Cooper Kupp is next at +1000, and he is followed by Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Ryan at +1200 and Jets QB Zach Wilson at +1400.
