Nick Bosa Defensive Player Of The Year Odds

  • Nick Bosa’s DPOY odds have shortened from -130 last week to +1100 entering Week 17.
  • Bosa’s closest competitor is Dallas’ Micah Parsons who is at +550 odds.
  • Bosa leads the NFL with a career-high 17.5 sacks this season and is two sacks away from matching the 49ers’ franchise record with still two games left to play.

Nick Bosa has pulled away from the Defensive Player of the Year field.

The 49ers’ Defensive End is now listed at -1100 to win the award with Dallas’ Micah Parsons now at +550 odds and Myles Garrett, Chris Jones, and Maxx Crosby all at +10000 odds heading to Week 17.

If the oddsmakers are correct, Bosa now has a 91.7% implied probability to win the award, with his closest competitor Parsons only at 15.4% implied probability.

Nick Bosa Opened at +1200 to Win DPOY Award

Last April, it was reigning NFL DPOY winner T.J. Watt and L.A. Rams’ former three-time DPOY winner Aaron Donald who opened as the +700 co-favorites to win the 2023 NFL Defensive Player of the Year award. Cleveland’s Myles Garrett was a close second at +750 while last season’s Defensive Rookie of the Year Parsons was 4th at +1000 odds.

Then there was Nick Bosa at +1200 who successfully bounced back after almost missing the entire 2020 season with an ACL tear. The 25-year-old recorded a career-high 15.5 sacks during the 2021 NFL season after playing only two games the previous year.

When the season began, Parsons was the early frontrunner. After a two-sack performance on Thanksgiving Day, Parsons saw his odds shorten to -1200. The following week, however, Bosa’s three-sack Week 13 performance saw his odds shorten to +250, enabling him to move to second behind Parsons.

In Week 15, the Cowboys gave up 40 points in their collapse against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Meanwhile, the 49ers continued to win and it was at this point that Bosa overtook Parsons as the betting favorite. Bosa’s odds were at -130 last week and had already built a solid case for DPOY before Christmas Day. However, he further cemented his status as the favorite with a dominating Week 16 effort.

NFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 16

Bosa played a key role in last Saturday’s 37-20 win over the Washington Commanders. The fourth-year pro recorded seven tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble, and a third sack which did not appear in the official stats sheet because it came on a two-point conversion attempt. Because of his effort, he was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 16, the second time this month he’s won the award and the 4th time overall in his career.

With Bosa dominating on defense, the 49ers held their opponent to 20 or fewer points for the 8th consecutive game, all wins for San Francisco. During that stretch, the 49ers have won by double digits six times, including four by two touchdowns or more. San Francisco clinched their division two weeks ago and currently has the 4th best record in the NFC conference.

Bosa has one sack in 29 out of his first 49 NFL games played and is one away from joining Von Miller (32 games) and Reggie White (31 games) as the only players since 1982 with at least one sack in their first 50 NFL games played. He is also two sacks away from Aldon Smith’s 49ers record of 19.5 sacks in a single season and he still has two regular season games left to play.

The second overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft was named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2019 but this season, Bosa is looking to win the NFL’s top defensive trophy – the Defensive Player of the Year award and many think, including the top NFL betting sites, that he’s done enough to end the conversation with still two weeks left to play in the regular season.
