Brock Purdy What Are The Odds Oroy

  • Brock Purdy has gone from off-the-board to 5th in the latest NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year betting boards.
  • Purdy threw 2 TD passes as the 49ers beat the Seahawks last weekend to clinch the NFC West Division title.
  • The 49ers are 3-0 SU in games where Purdy has appeared.

Don’t look now but Mr. Irrelevant has suddenly become relevant in the NFL betting arena.

When the top NFL sportsbooks drew up the Offensive Rookie of the Year odds boards, Brock Purdy wasn’t part of the equation. After all, the San Francisco 49ers’ third-string quarterback was the last and final pick of the 2022 NFL draft at no. 262. But after injuries forced him to assume his team’s QB1 spot, oddsmakers are starting to notice.

With Purdy at the helm, the 49ers have won three straight games and have clinched the NFC West Division title. Because of that, The 22-year-old Iowa State product has emerged as a contender in the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year odds boards.

Purdy Catapults Himself into the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Race

It was less than a week ago when New York Jets rookie wideout Garrett Wilson overtook Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III as the odds-on favorite to win this year’s top offensive rookie award.

The last time we looked, Wilson was the +190 favorite at BetOnline with Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson as the second favorite at +300. Walker dropped to third at +315 and New Orleans Saints WR Chris Olave is the only other player with odds shorter than +1000 at +600 odd.

Brock Purdy wasn’t in any OROY odds board last week. But before the 49ers’ last game against the Seattle Seahawks, Purdy made his maiden appearance on the OROY odds boards at +2500 odds. Those odds shortened to +2000 after he led the Niners to a third consecutive victory while clinching their division.

As of the latest OROY odds boards at the top NFL sportsbooks, Purdy is now listed at +1000 odds and fifth overall among betting favorites. Sure, Garrett Wilson is still on top of the mountain with his +140 odds and he is followed by Watson at +340. Walker is still third at +350 and Olave 4th at +550 odds.

Kenny Pickett, the only QB taken in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, has thrown only four TD passes in 294 pass attempts. Pickett is currently listed at +8000 to win the OROY award and he is not expected to play this Sunday due to a concussion. Purdy will be at home hosting the Washington Commanders on Christmas Day.

From Mr. Irrelevant to Mr. Relevant

Mr. Irrelevant made his first NFL appearance in Week 13 when Jimmy G. suffered a regular-season-ending injury. In that game, he completed 25 of 37 passes for 210 yards with two TDs and one interception as the 49ers beat the Dolphins 33-17. He got his first start in Week 14 and became the first QB making his first NFL start to beat Tom Brady.

Suddenly, Mr. Irrelevant became Mr. Relevant as he led the 49ers with 185 passing yards and 2 passing TDs on 16-21 passing. Then last week, Purdy passed for 217 yards with two TDs as the 49ers beat the Seattle Seahawks 21-13, and clinch the NFC West Division title with still three games left to spare.

In his first two starts, Purdy has completed 70% of his passes with 4 touchdowns and zero interceptions, joining Jimmy Garoppolo in 2016 with the New England Patriots and Aaron Rodgers with the Green Bay Packers in 2008 as the only QBs since 1950 to accomplish the feat.

He has thrown only 93 passes this season but already has six TD passes, the most among rookie quarterbacks. The 49ers are 3-0 SU in games where Purdy has played and he has posted a passer rating of 108.0 during that span. He also finished with the best QBR of any NFL QB in Week 14 when he faced Brady.

Purdy only has three regular seasons left to prove why he deserves the OROY award so it’s still going to be an uphill climb for him. But with no clear-cut favorite to win the award and the 49ers among the top Super Bowl LVII betting favorites at +700, it would be foolish to count out Purdy right now.
