Washington Nationals Logo - Washington D.C. Skyline - Dollars Rain

Washington National fans are understandably excited that their team has punched their ticket to the 2019 World Series! But, they’re not the only winners here. According to the Tourism Economic for Destinations International (TEDI), the team’s home city of Washington D.C. is also going to enjoy the spoils of victory.

The TEDI estimates the city will bring in $6.5 million in economic impact during the first two home games on October 25th and October 26th. This number skyrockets if the series goes to a game five. National’s games are played at Nationals Park located in southwestern D.C. Local businesses, hotels, restaurants, bars, and more should expect to see a massive uptick in business and sales.

How did they come up with this impressive figure? TEDI uses their impact calculator which factors in how many people will be visiting the city for the event, the type of event, and how long the event is expected to last. This is already a busy time in the city with the 70th annual International Astronautical Congress and the 44th Marine Corp Marathon going on the same week.

In other words, expect hotel rates to be through the roof if you’re heading into town to watch the Astros and the Nats face off. If you’re planning on attending, we recommend booking your hotels and amenities last week.

For those already in town looking to enjoy the first two games of the series, Nationals Park will be hosting watch parties on the 22nd and 23rd of this month for games one and two. Cost? Free. Parking? Free. That being said, you will still need to get a ticket to attend. You can claim your tickets at the Nationals website. Gates will open at 7 pm and the first pitches for games one and two are at 8:08 and 8:07, respectively. Food and drink will be available for purchase.

The TEDI did not estimate the gain for the city if the Nationals went to a game five but expect it to be in the several million-dollar range. While fans would love to see the team sweep in four, the cities are always excited to see the series go into extra games.
