Pick 1: Arsenal (-140) over Leicester City

Sat. Feb. 25th at 10AM EST

The Gunners came through for us in a big way as the opening selection in last weekend’s parlay, and we’ll go right back to them again this weekend.

Mikel Arteta has his squad firing, and their second half goal outburst against Aston Villa demonstrated the true strength and quality of this club.  Arsenal boasts a unique blend of speed and skill in wide positions, and that talent can really stretch defenses.

Leicester is going to be hard-pressed to counter that this weekend, and manager Brendan Rodgers will likely be left looking for answers.

His troubles will be magnified by the fact that the Foxes enter Saturday morning devoid of good defensive options, and their plodding back-line will be no match for the pace of Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka.

Although it promises to be a hostile atmosphere for the visiting Arsenal side, at Leicester’s King Power stadium, the Gunners have been solid away from home all season long.  It’s a huge game in terms of Premier League title implications, as Arsenal can temporarily re-establish a five-point gap atop the table with a victory.

Leicester simply will fail to match up to Arsenal’s firepower here, and without key guys along their defensive back-line along with a recent knee injury in training to midfield maestro James Maddison, the Foxes seem hard-pressed to put up a worthy challenge on Saturday morning.

Leicester might get some chances, but it’ll be Arsenal who can finish regularly.  Expect their skill to win out once again in Saturday’s second half.

Pick 2: DC Defenders +3 vs. Vegas Vipers (-110)

Sat. Feb. 25th at 7PM EST

It was certainly an interesting opening week in the XFL, with just enough rule tweaks and intriguing opportunities to keep many casual football fans engaged and back, looking for more action with Week 2 upon us.

The XFL has also worked to effectively stagger their games throughout the weekend, so fans and bettors can watch all of the action.

This Saturday night, I know we all will be tuning into DC vs. Vegas in a key Week 2 showdown in the XFL.  The Defenders will make the cross-country journey to Las Vegas, as the Vipers look to shake off last week’s collapse.

The Vipers held a 14-3 lead at halftime, before losing late to the Arlington Renegades.  On offense, they struggled with ball protection and blocking, and the pressure of the DC Defenders should give them some fits on Saturday night.

For the Vipers, QB Luis Perez remains problematic.  While the former USFL star possesses a big arm, and good talent alongside him in the backfield, he’s been turnover prone in recent outings and hasn’t handled pressure well.

Last week he took four sacks and threw two interceptions. That’s not a great sign when you consider that the Defenders defense looked to have a pretty elite pass rush.

Despite the talent Vegas supposedly has in their backfield, they didn’t run the ball all that well last week vs. Arlington.  Across 15 rushes, they only secured 27 yards for a measly 1.7 yards per carry.

In any league, that’s simply not good enough.  Against a tough Defenders’ run stopping unit, it’s hard to imagine seeing Vegas show much success when it comes to moving the chains on Saturday.

The Defenders did just enough on offense last week to secure the victory, but they weren’t all that efficient either.  Jordan Ta’amu was much better with his legs than his big arm, and the Defenders were quick to mix-in their second-team QB in D’Eriq King as a secondary rusher.  Where this DC squad thrived was with their team defense, which no surprise given their team’s name!

The Defenders battled hard when they didn’t have the ball, and limited Seattle last week to just five yards per pass attempt and 2.9 rush yards per attempt.  Those are impressive numbers in any league, and the Defenders enter Week 2 looking to have the best defense in the entire XFL.

Expect a lot of pressure and blitz packages from DC, and it’ll be up to the Vegas offensive line to try and do a better job this week at keeping Perez upright.

Though there is heavy travel involved for DC, it seems wrong to have them as three-point underdogs entering this matchup.  They’re currently better on both sides of the football when compared to Vegas, and their bullish defense should lead them to leaving Las Vegas with a perfect 2-0 record.

Two-Team Parlay Odds

If you prefer to just go with a two-team parlay card, a pairing of Arsenal (-140) and the DC Defenders +3 (-110) has parlay odds of +227. This means you would win $227 dollars for every $100 dollars wagered.

Pick 3: West Ham United (-140) over Nottingham Forest

Sat. Feb. 25th at 10AM EST

For our third play of the weekend, we’ll head back to the Saturday morning slate of English Premier League soccer, where a talented West Ham side looks to easily dispose of Nottingham Forest at home.

West Ham has underachieved all season long, and despite their impressive roster on paper, they have struggled to live up to their lofty expectations.

Recently however they are showing an increased form, and as healthy bodies have returned to the side, the Hammers are surging up the table. Declan Rice continues to anchor their midfield, and he’ll hold a huge advantage in terms of ball winning and passing against a pedestrian Nottingham Forest line-up.

West Ham has also been excellent on home turf as of late and, despite Forest miraculously stealing a point from Man City last week, this is a side firmly in a relegation battle.

It’s impressive that Forest has done so well this season, given how poor many of their underlying metrics have been. They fail to generate much offense, and have been quite porous defensively.

A talented offensive side like West Ham should give them fits defensively. The Hammers should see the importance of establishing their dominance and claiming all three points with some of Nottingham’s injury issues.

Many were left scratching their heads after West Ham’s lacklustre showing in a big rivalry match last Sunday vs. Tottenham.  The Hammers were beaten seemingly from kick-off and showed little fight or emotion.

After a week of having their coach and fan base call out this talented group, expect to see a response in a big way on Saturday at the London Stadium.

Right now, too much respect is being shown to Nottingham Forest for getting lucky bounces and drawing Manchester City last week.  West Ham is too strong in the centre of the pitch, and should control the bulk of possession as they get a crucial home victory on Saturday morning.

Three-Team Parlay Odds

Taking the first three legs of this Saturday parlay card, with Arsenal (-140), the DC Defenders +3 (-110), and adding West Ham United at (-140), returns juicy +461 parlay odds. This means you would win $461 dollars for every $100 dollars wagered.

Pick 4: Jake Paul over Tommy Fury

Sun. Feb. 26th at 2:00 PM EST

After seemingly years of talking and back-and-forth through social media, YouTube sensation and undefeated boxer Jake Paul will finally step into the ring against reality star and half-brother of Tyson, when he faces Tommy Fury on Sunday from Saudi Arabia. This main event bout headlines an intriguing PPV boxing card.

Though both of these guys aren’t necessarily primarily known for their boxing abilities, both Paul and Fury have steadily improved.  Jake Paul in particular has become quite good, as he enters with a 6-0 record.  He has shown that he has legitimate knockout power in his left hand and that is something that Fury definitely needs to look out for.

Paul looked stellar taking on a difficult style in his last fight vs. MMA legend Anderson Silva, and it is quite clear that he is taking his foray into boxing quite seriously.

Tommy Fury might have impressive bloodlines with his half-brother being Tyson Fury, and he boasts a nice jab, but the strengths stop there.  Paul is naturally bigger, has proven to be a heavier hitter with both hands, and looks to be more versatile as well.  He can mix up approaches, and is effective at striking the body.

While much is being made of the fact that finally Jake Paul is “taking on a real pro boxer,” we are clearly using the term “pro” lightly in this situation.

Despite Fury entering with an 8-0 record and 4 knockouts, half of his victories have come against opponents with zero wins to their name.  His wins have looked less than impressive, and he enters Sunday evening facing pretty heavy doubts on his conditioning and punching power. These are two areas Paul excels in.

While many are seemingly rooting for Jake Paul to fall flat on his face eventually with his boxing endeavors, you might as well keep hoping and stay hating.

Paul is only getting better, and his knockout power is very real.  Paul is used to big fights by now, and has put down some of the best combat sport athletes over the past few years.  Speed, power, conditioning, and experience all tilt this one towards “The Problem Child” Jake Paul as he delivers Tommy Fury with his first loss on Sunday night.

Four-Team Parlay Odds

And there you have it, folks! Four exciting wagers spanning Saturday and Sunday to add a little excitement to your betting needs this weekend. If you do choose to wager on all four selections of this parlay card, you will receive parlay odds of +801. This means that you would win $801 dollars for every $100 dollars wagered.
