According to the oddsmakers, Broner is the -250 favorite and Figueroa the +175 underdog in their August 20th bout in Florida. The 33-year-old has not been the same since 3/1 underdog Marcos Maidana took his “O” in one of the biggest upsets in 2013. Meanwhile, Figueroa is looking to return to the winner’s circle after losing his last two fights.

Broner has not fought since edging little-known Jovanie Santiago in his most recent bout way back in February 2021, in what was his first bout in over two years. The win over Santiago was far from his best performance. He fought the entire first round without landing a single punch, yet he won the round on two out of the three judges’ scorecards.
The controversial scoring was one thing but Broner looking timid and slow against an overmatched opponent who entered the ring as a +500 betting underdog was more disappointing. Santiago out landed Broner 207-98 in total punches landed while throwing 697 total punches against AB’s 338.
AB has also dealt with legal issues outside the boxing ring. Three years ago, a court ordered him to pay a woman $830,000 for allegedly sexually harassing her in a Cleveland nightclub in 2018. Last October, he was jailed after he violated the terms of his probation from that sexual assault case.

Despite the controversies and a 3-3-1 record in his previous seven bouts, Broner still opened as the -250 betting favorite against former lightweight world champion Figueroa, who has had his share of disappointments in what was once also seen as a promising boxing career.
Four years ago, Figueroa was arrested on A DUI charge in 2018. One year later, the Weslaco, Texas native was also arrested for racing his car on a highway. Just before his DUI arrest, Figueroa pulled out of a fight against Broner after he suffered an injury. That fight was never rescheduled as the two went separate paths after that.
Inside the ring, Figueroa’s career has also seen its ups and down. He won the WBC lightweight title in 2013 and successfully defended it twice. After defeating Antonio de Marco in 2015, he fought only twice until February 2019, beating Robert Guerrero and John Molina Jr. Since then, he’s dropped back-to-back fights betting underdog against both Yordenis Ugas (+350) and Abel Ramos (+130) and will be the bottom dog for the third consecutive bout against Broner.
