Andy Ruiz has been installed as a sizable betting favorite in his upcoming heavyweight showdown with Luis Ortiz.
The former unified heavyweight champion hit the betting boards at -250 odds while Ortiz came back at +175 when the top boxing betting sites opened the betting lines for the bout.

Ruiz is coming off a 12-round unanimous decision win over Chris Arreola in a very entertaining bout. In that bout, Ruiz was dropped in the second round and hurt in the next. However, he survived the onslaught and went on to box smartly to win every round after. In the end, the judges awarded the Mexican the unanimous decision win with scores of 118-109, 118-109, and 117-110. Ruiz threw 101 more total punches and landed 52 more. He also had the better accuracy at 26% versus 21%.
The 32-year-old pulled off one of the biggest upsets in boxing history when he knocked out Anthony Joshua on June 1, 2019, at +1200 odds to become the unified boxing heavyweight champion. He lost the belts in an immediate rematch six months later in Saudi Arabia. Since that loss, Ruiz has fought just once and that was against Arreola 13 months ago. The Destroyer has a record of 34-2 with 22 knockouts.
This marks Ruiz’s longest odds as a betting favorite since 2016. Prior to this bout, Ruiz’s longest betting odds during that span was at -1429 when he retired Alexander Dimitrenko in five rounds in April 2019. He has been the underdog only three times during that span, twice to Joshua and against Joseph Parker. Ruiz won two of those three bouts.

Meanwhile, Ortiz stopped former IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin in his most recent bout last January 1st. That win was the second consecutive knockout victory since his second unsuccessful title challenge against then-WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder in November 2019.
The 43-year-old Cuban southpaw is a former interim WBA world heavyweight champion who also challenged twice but unsuccessfully for the WBC heavyweight belt. Known for his knockout power, the man known as “King Kong” has stopped notable heavyweights like Bryant Jennings, Tony Thompson, David Allen, Razvan Cojanu, Travis Kauffman, and Martin. He has a record of 33-2 with 28 KOs with both his losses coming at the hands of Deontay Wilder.
Ortiz will be the betting underdog for only the third time in his professional boxing career. The only times that he had the plus money sign written next to his name was when he fought Wilder at +350 odds in their first bout and +375 in their rematch. Wilder knocked Ortiz out in both matches.
