With promoter Eddie Hearn confirming that the fight is taking place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, the details are now complete, setting the stage for the long-awaited third fight between two of the best middleweights of this era. The oddsmakers too have opened the betting odds for the fight.

According to Caesars Sportsbook, Alvarez is a heavy -410 betting favorite to beat Golovkin for the second time in three bouts. Triple G meanwhile, hits the opening betting board at +310 odds which is easily the longest of his professional boxing career. During the pandemic, when the third fight between these two middleweight greats was first talked about, Alvarez opened at -300 odds with Golovkin coming back at +250.
The current odds at Caesars are the most lopsided in the three bouts between Canelo and Golovkin. In their first fight on September 16, 2017, Golovkin opened as the -170 betting favorite to beat Alvarez and closed at -200 odds. Meanwhile, Canelo hit the opening boards at +140 odds and closed at a longer +200 price. The rematch one year later had almost identical odds.
Triple G still opened as the -175 odds on favorite with the Mexican coming back at +150 odds. The Kazakh god of war entered the fight as the -210 betting favorite while Canelo closed at +175 odds. But a lot has happened since Alvarez defeated Golovkin via majority decision in their rematch.

Alvarez is coming off an upset loss to Dmitry Bivol in a fight where Bivol was a heavy +400 underdog. The loss was Alvarez’s first since dropping a unanimous decision to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2013 and took place in the light heavyweight division which isn’t the Mexican’s natural weight class.
One fight before the Bivol loss, Canelo defeated Caleb Plant to unify the super middleweight championship belts and become the division’s first undisputed four-belt champion. Alvarez is 7-0 with 5 knockouts since the Golovkin rematch and even won the WBO light heavyweight title during that stretch by defeating Sergey Kovalev in 2019.
Golovkin meanwhile, has fought only four times since losing to Canelo. Although he’s won all four bouts with three knockouts and has captured two major middleweight belts during that span, he has not fought the kind of competition that Alvarez has during the same period. Golovkin is also now 40 years old and has looked slower and more hittable than ever in his recent bouts.
