Floyd Mayweather In Ring

  • Plans for Floyd Mayweather against a UFC fighter are being discussed.
  • Mayweather hasn’t competed professionally since August of 2017.
  • A rematch with Manny Pacquiao is also on the table.

Floyd Mayweather is widely regarded as the best boxer of this generation. Days ago, the legendary boxer announced that he was making a comeback. New reports indicate that Floyd Mayweather against a UFC fighter may actually happen in 2020.

It’s exciting every time Floyd claims that he wants to compete again. Today, we’re going to look at some of the opponents that are rumored for his return.

Retirement Never Lasts Long for Floyd Mayweather

This isn’t the first time Floyd Mayweather has revealed that his retirement is over. In fact, he’s done it several times throughout his career, the first being all the way back in 2009. At that time, he stepped back into the ring against Juan Manuel Marquez after a nearly 2-year layoff.

Floyd’s love for money is well-known. When an opportunity presents itself, he capitalizes. This was on display the most in August of 2017 when Mayweather took on Conor McGregor in the first major MMA vs. Boxing crossover fight.

Mayweather entered this bout as the significant betting favorite. He was 49-0 in professional boxing against a fighter who had never competed in boxing as a professional. Some online betting sites gave Floyd odds of -2500 to beat the Irishman.

It ended up being a more competitive fight than many predicted. Conor even managed to win a few rounds early on. Ultimately, Mayweather emerged victorious with a 10th round TKO.

Afterward, Mayweather claimed that he was done fighting for good. He’d made more than $300 million against Conor and retirement seemed like it may actually be a reality this time around.

In typical Floyd fashion, he’s once again announced a comeback. This time, reports of Floyd Mayweather against a UFC fighter are beginning to surface.

Floyd Mayweather Against a UFC Fighter is Being Discussed

The allure of an MMA fighter taking on a boxer is always there. Fans of both sports want to see their fighter win. When Conor McGregor fought against Mayweather, it was one of the biggest combat sporting events of all time. Now, it appears that Floyd is ready to test himself against another UFC fighter sometime in the near future.

According to TMZ, Floyd Mayweather against a UFC fighter will actually happen in 2020. The news company’s sources claim that the fight would “preferably” be a UFC star that has “impressed with stand-up striking skills.” It’s unclear exactly who they are referring to.

One possibility is a match against Khabib Nurmagomedov. In the past, the Russian lightweight has called for a match against Floyd. He’s known primarily as a wrestler, yet he did manage to drop Conor McGregor with a massive overhand right.

Jorge Masvidal is another option. He’s coming off wins over Nate Diaz and Ben Askren and is considered one of the best boxers in the sport. He’s much larger than Floyd yet the matchup is a possibility for 154 pounds.

A rematch with Conor is always on the table, as well. Conor is also a money fiend and would welcome the chance to earn another 9-figure payday against Floyd.

We’re likely to hear more details of this situation over the next few months.

Mayweather vs. Pacquiao 2 Odds Are Available Online

Floyd Mayweather against a UFC fighter isn’t the only news that’s making headlines today. TMZ’s report also claims that Floyd is interested in a rematch with Manny Pacquiao. The two fought in a monumental clash back in May of 2015. Mayweather emerged victorious via unanimous decision.

Immediately after the fight, Manny claimed he had an injured shoulder. A fight while healthy, he argued, would go much differently. Many have been calling for the second bout ever since.

It appears this is a real possibility for 2020. Mybookie.ag, one of the best online sportsbooks in the US, is now offering odds on this potential bout.

It’s not a surprise to see Mayweather listed as the betting favorite. He proved to be the better fighter last time and is likely to repeat his performance should they ever clash again. Mybookie lists his odds at -260.

Staying active is a major advantage for fighters. In that regard, Pacquiao has the edge. He’s competed several times since Floyd’s “retirement” and still looks like a champion. Despite his more active schedule, he enters as the +200 underdog.
