So, let’s not keep bettors or the prince and princess waiting any longer, here are our 2023 BAFTA Awards predictions.

BAFTA Winners 2022
There are some familiar faces from the list of BAFTA winners last year. An American was one of the biggest winners at the 2022 BAFTA awards.
The name is a familiar one in American cinema, as Will Smith won the BAFTA for a Leading Actor. He earned the award for his role in the film King Richard4.
Smith was also awarded the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in King Richard5. Unfortunately, his accomplishments at the BAFTAs and Golden Globes were overshadowed by his incident with Chris Rock at the Oscars.

- BAFTA Best Director – Jane Campion (The Power of the Dog)

- BAFTA Leading Actress – Joanna Scanlan (After Love)
- BAFTA Outstanding British Film – Belfast

Our predictions are based on the following 2023 BAFTA odds provided by Bovada:
- BAFTA Best Film
- BAFTA Best Director
- BAFTA Leading Actor
- BAFTA Leading Actress
- BAFTA Outstanding British Film
What we can tell you right off the bat, after looking over the BAFTA Awards odds, is that The Banshees of Inisherin is expected to do very well at this year’s awards show.
The film is spearheaded by Colin Farrell, who is nominated for the BAFTA Leading Actor award. But, he’s not the only one receiving widespread acclaim as the rest of the team working on the film could bring home some hardware too.
The movie has also been nominated for Best Film, Best Director, and Outstanding British Film awards. The BAFTA for Leading Actress is the only prominent award that The Banshees of Inisherin has not been nominated for.
Let’s get into our 2023 BAFTA Awards predictions to see if we will be hearing screaming banshees all night or if there will be some upsets.
BAFTA Best Film Odds and Pick
Film | Odds |
---|---|
The Banshees of Insherin | -200 |
Everything Everywhere All At Once | +150 |
All Quiet on the Western Front | +1000 |
TAR | +1200 |
Elvis | +3300 |
The BAFTA Award for Best Film is a two-movie race between The Banshees of Insherin and Everything Everywhere All at Once. These are two very different films, but are deservedly in this position to win Best Film at the BAFTAs.
Everything Everywhere All at Once has already been recognized at a big-time award show. The film was nominated for six Golden Globes with Michelle Yoah winning Best Actress and Ke Huy Quan winning Best Supporting Actor7.
This movie isn’t close to being done racking up awards. Along with receiving nods at the BAFTAs, Everywhere Everywhere All at Once has been nominated for a whopping 11 Oscars8.
Everything Everywhere All at Once is a sci-fi adventure based around the life of Yoah’s character, Evelyn Wang. The fate of the world is in her hands, as she visits multiple universes in a crazy and unpredictable multiverse.
The story begins when Evelyn is being audited by the IRS and discovers that she is connected to this multiverse. If Evelyn does not act on her secret mission, the entire multiverse could be destroyed.
Everything Everywhere All at Once manages to do everything really well in this film. The name of the movie accurately describes the job that Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert did with this one.
While it is a sci-fi adventure, the film manages to be funnier than many comedies. The character development is seamless and the main characters are all likable. Jamie Lee Curtis could have won for Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture at the Golden Globes.
#BansheesMovie has been nominated for NINE Academy Awards including BEST PICTURE, BEST DIRECTOR Martin McDonagh, BEST ACTOR Colin Farrell, BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR Brendan Gleeson and Barry Keoghan, and BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS Kerry Condon! #Oscars95 pic.twitter.com/xjyN0Gzzqc
— The Banshees of Inisherin (@Banshees_Movie) January 24, 2023
The Banshees of Insherin was well-respected at the Golden Globes, as well. The film was nominated for eight, with three wins for Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Screenplay9.
It did not manage to grab as many Oscar nominations as Everything Everywhere All at Once, but still has a respectable nine nods10.
Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, and Kerry Condon are featured in the film about two friends at a crossroads in their relationship. Colm (Gleeson) unexpectedly breaks the friendship off with Padriac (Farrell).
Based in Ireland during the Civil War in the 1920s, the film depicts the relationship between Colm and Padriac. For such a simple concept on an island, it manages to be serious and laugh-out-loud hilarious at times.
The Irish-based film is likely going to get the nod for Best Film. Everything Everywhere All at Once deserves awards, along with Oscars, but this looks like a victory for The Banshees of Insherin at the 2023 BAFTAs.
BAFTA Director Odds and Pick
Director | Odds |
---|---|
Daniel Kwan & Daniel Scheinert (Everything Everywhere All at Once) | -125 |
Martin McDonagh (The Banshees of Insherin) | +125 |
Edward Berger (All Quiet on the Western Front) | +800 |
Todd Field (Tar) | +800 |
Gina Prince-Blythewood (The Woman King) | +2500 |
Park Chan-wook (Decision to Leave) | +2500 |
The BAFTA Award for Director is once again a two-movie race between Everything Everywhere All at Once and The Banshees of Insherin. Like the Best Film category, it is unlikely that we are going to see a major upset here.
While The Banshees of Insherin have the top claims to winning the Best Film award, the two Daniels have a good case for the Director award.
— DANIELS (@Daniels) January 24, 2023
There couldn’t be anything more different than the direction of these two films. One is entirely based on a small island in Ireland, while the other explores multiple universes and characters.
They both work well in their own special way. When it comes to the directing effort of these two films, it is hard to find faults in what Kwan and Scheinert were able to accomplish.
There is so much going on in Everything Everywhere All at Once. The directors manage to get the most out of the leading roles, but also the supporting cast.
While still impressive, we don’t feel as strongly about The Banshees of Insherin in this respect. Look for Kwan and Scheinert to get what they rightfully deserve. The BAFTA Award odds for this bet at -125 make it a strong play.
BAFTA Leading Actor Odds and Pick
Actor | Odds |
---|---|
Colin Farrell (The Banshees of Insherin) | -325 |
Brendan Fraser (The Whale) | +250 |
Austin Butler (Elvis) | +600 |
Paul Mescal (Aftersun) | +2200 |
Bill Nighy (Living) | +2500 |
Daryl McCormack (Good Luck to You, Leo Grande) | +4000 |
The BAFTA Award for Leading Actor in 2023 is personally a tough one. Colin Farrell, Brendan Fraser, and Austin Butler are all worthy of winning this award.
They all put on acting clinics for the audience. If an actor can make viewers forget what their real name is for two or three hours, then job well done.
That is what all three men were able to accomplish. Fraser and Butler have been acknowledged several times for their work. They have been nominated for Oscars at the 2023 ceremony11.

Farrell has never been an actor that thrives on attention. We are sure that he is fine with Fraser and Butler having the spotlight this time. But this performance will have him shining at awards shows in 2023.
Farrell brilliantly carries The Banshees of Insherin, with Brendan Gleeson, as he is able to capture so many different moods throughout the film. From humor, anger, confusion, and glee, Farrell nails the part. The native of Ireland should have this one in the bag.
BAFTA Leading Actress Odds and Pick
Actress | Odds |
---|---|
Cate Blanchett (TAR) | -300 |
Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All at Once) | +250 |
Danielle Deadwyler (Till) | +1000 |
Viola Davis (The Woman King) | +2000 |
Ana de Armas (Blonde) | +2500 |
Emma Thompson (Good Luck to You, Leo Grande) | +2500 |
Cate Blanchett is favored to win the BAFTA Award for Leading Actress in 2023. Blanchett plays Lydia Tar, an accomplished conductor considered by many to be the best in the world.
The psychological drama takes a dark turn after her own self-interests and abuse of power bring on her own downfall. The movie looks at the life of a narcissistic classical music conductor that is only fueled by power and control.

— KTLA Entertainment (@ktlaENT) February 13, 2023
There wasn’t a better woman for the job than Blanchett. She made the role her own and carried the entire film. If they do not cast the leading actress correctly, TAR would have been a terrible movie.
No offense to everyone else that worked on the film, but TAR was all Blanchett. In perhaps the best performance of her career, Blanchett owned the role.
There is no denying that Michelle Yeoh deserves this award, too. However, it is unlikely that any actress can compete with Blanchett for her portrayal of Lydia Tar.
BAFTA Outstanding British Film Odds and Pick
Film | Odds |
---|---|
The Banshees of Insherin | -1000 |
Aftersun | +700 |
Brian & Charles | +2500 |
Empire of Light | +2500 |
Living | +2500 |
Good Luck to You, Leo Grande | +4000 |
Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical | +4000 |
See How They Run | +4000 |
The Swimmers | +4000 |
The Wonder | +4000 |
The Outstanding British Film category might be the biggest slam dunk of the night. The Banshees of Insherin is the clear favorite for Outstanding British Film.
When the cast of this film was announced, the chemistry between Farrell and Gleeson was expected to be great together. However, these two were able to go well beyond their job descriptions.

Not everyone is going to fall in love with this film. It might develop too slowly for some viewers, but movie critics sure loved it as evident by a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes12. We agree with the critics and feel that this award is already sewn up.
If you don’t want to lay -1000 on the BAFTA Awards odds for this bet, consider The Banshees of Insherin for Best Film at -200 instead.
