Bill Algeo has opened as the slight betting favorite against Herbert Burns in their hastily put-up fight at UFC Long Island.
Algeo hit the betting boards at -120 odds while Burns debuted at even money odds when the lines for their July 16th bout were first released:

It can be recalled that Algeo and Burns agreed to fight each other last week after their original opponents withdrew from their respective bouts. Algeo was supposed to fight Billy Quarantillo while Burns was scheduled to meet Khusien Askhabov but both Quarantillo and Askhabov are injured.

Algeo was last seen outstriking Joanderson Brito en route to a unanimous decision win at UFC Vegas 46 last January 15th at the UFC Apex. With the victory, Algeo has now alternated wins and losses in his last seven bouts, including a 2019 appearance in the Contender Series where he lost to Brendan Loughnane.
The 33-year-old from Boothwyn, Pennsylvania is a former Ring of Combat featherweight champion who also challenged twice for the CFFC featherweight title. Algeo’s last six bouts have gone the distance and he’s gone 3-3 during that span, including 2-2 inside the Octagon. Overall, Algeo has a record of 15-6 with three knockouts and six submission victories.
This will mark the third straight bout where Algeo has opened with the plus money sign written next to his name, although he has closed as the betting underdog in three out of his first four UFC assignments, including as a +145 against Brito. He’s lost only once as the underdog and that was when he lost on points to Ricardo Ramos as the -145 betting favorite.

Burns, the younger brother of welterweight contender Durinho Burns, suffered a second-round TKO loss against Daniel Pineda at UFC 252 in August 2020. The defeat snapped a five-bout winning streak for Burns who not only stopped his previous five opponents but also ended four of them inside the first round.
The 34-year-old from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil spent most of his early MMA career fighting for ONE FC in Asia. Burns also fought under the Only Fighting Championship and Titan FC before joining the UFC in 2020. He is 2-1 inside the Octagon and has an overall record of 11-3 with one knockout and eight submission victories.
Burns will be a smaller betting underdog against Algeo than he was supposed to be against Askhabov. The Brazilian opened at -200 odds versus Askhabov before the latter withdrew from the fight. He was a huge -290 favorite when he lost to Pineda the last time out. Burns was also the -245 chalk when he was beaten by Movlid Khaybulaev during his second to the last fight under ONE FC.
