New York Jets Aaron Rodgers

  • 39-year-old Aaron Rodgers is on the move after the Green Bay Packers deal franchise quarterback to New York.
  • The New York Jets Super Bowl betting odds shoot up to +1200 at BetOnline after the deal was announced.
  • Jordan Love takes over as QB1 for the Green Bay Packers.

For the first time in his 19-year career, four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers will be wearing a different uniform in 2023. Rodgers is trading in the dark green and gold of the Green Bay Packers for Gotham Green with the New York Jets.

In what has been a deal two years in the making, Rodgers finally got his wish by departing from Matt LaFleur and the Packers. In 2021, Rodgers confirmed that there was a rift between him and the organization. This damage was never repaired and the longtime quarterback only grew more discontent with the Packers organization.

Despite losing a future Hall of Famer, the Packers did pretty well in this trade. Green Bay will acquire a slew of draft picks from the Jets for the 39-year-old signal caller. Along with Rodgers, the Packers will send their first and fifth-round 2023 NFL Draft pick to the Jets.

The Jets will send the Packers their first, second, and sixth-round draft picks in this year’s NFL Draft. Additionally, they are sending a conditional 2024 second-round pick, which will become a first-round selection if Rodgers is on the field for 65 percent of the Jets’ offensive plays this year.

Jets Super Bowl Odds Skyrocket After The Trade

Oddsmakers have reacted swiftly to the big NFL news. Following the trade for Rodgers, the New York Jets have seen their Super Bowl 58 odds shoot up to +1200 at BetOnline. The Jets now have the sixth best odds to win SB 58 after being listed as high as+5000 odds prior to the trade.

This is the best Super Bowl odds that the Jets have had since the Rex Ryan and Darrelle Revis era over ten years ago. Furthermore, the Jets are now listed at -150 to make the Playoffs and +220 to win the AFC East division. They’re currently behind divisional favorite Buffalo Bills who have +140 odds to win the AFC East at BetOnline.

Rodgers and The Jets Expected To Excel Offensively

In New York, Rodgers should immediately look comfortable with a bevy of attractive targets. Garrett Wilson will be the biggest beneficiary of the trade. The rookie racked up over 1,100 receiving yards between Zach Wilson, Joe Flacco, and Mike White throwing him the ball.

Also joining Rodgers is one of his favorite targets from Green Bay in Allen Lazard. Rodgers did not like what the organization was doing with the Packers’ offense, but he had standout chemistry with Lazard. The Jets signed the talented receiver to a four-year deal worth $44 million last month.

BetOnline has also bumped Rodgers’ NFL MVP odds up to +1400, which is the seventh best odds to win the league’s top award. The new Jets QB was listed with odds as low as +3000 to win the MVP prior to the trade.

What does this mean for Zach Wilson? The Jets trading for Rodgers means that the No. 2 overall selection from the 2021 NFL Draft could be on the move. The deal for Rodgers is a confession by the Jets that drafting Wilson was an erroneous decision.

Jordan Love Finally Gets Chance to Be Starting Packers QB

In Green Bay, the Packers are beginning a new era with quarterback Jordan Love. Similar to Aaron Rodgers waiting for an opportunity behind Brett Favre, Love had to patiently wait for his name to be called as the starting quarterback.

The Utah State product was drafted in the first-round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Rodgers did not openly admit that he disagreed with the pick. However, the water was starting to boil as soon as the Packers drafted Love.

There was discontent between Rodgers and the front office after using a first-round selection on a quarterback. Rodgers wanted help for the offense. Instead, the organization drafted Rodger’s replacement.

Love has only appeared in ten games over his two-year career and has passed for 606 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions. The 24-year-old has huge shoes to fill after the Packers have had Favre and Rodgers every year since 1992.

According to BetOnline, the Packers have +5000 odds of winning Super Bowl 58. This is considerably worse than the Jets.

However, +5000 odds still put the Packers ahead of the Steelers, Titans, Rams, and Seahawks. These Super Bowl odds suggest that the Packers are expected to be a mid-tier team without Rodgers at the helm in 2023.
