Mount Airy Casino Resort Spa Adults Only

  • Mount Airy Casino is banning guests under 21 years of age effective December 18, 2022.
  • The casino was fined $160,000 last September for three instances of underage gambling.
  • Mount Airy Casino has over 2,220 slot machines and 72 table games in a 65,144 square foot gaming area.

Pennsylvania’s Mount Airy Casino announced last Tuesday that it will no longer be accepting guests under 21 years of age.

The policy, which took effect last December 18th, will apply to the entire property, including hotel rooms, restaurants, spa and pool area, and of course the casino floor and bar.

In a statement, Mount Airy owner and managing trustee Lisa DeNaples said:

“This decision, made after careful consideration and based on feedback from our patrons, caters to the increasing demand we are seeing for exceptional amenities and outstanding personal service. By offering an adults-only environment, we intend to serve as the premier escape for those seeking an elevated lifestyle that includes high-end experiences and luxury accommodations.”

However, the casino’s new policy also came three months after it was fined by state regulators for underage gambling.

Mount Airy Fined for Underage Gambling

It can be recalled that last September, Mount Airy was slapped with a $261,000 fine by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, the bulk of which were penalties charged for violating underage gambling rules.

According to the PGCB, there were three instances where individuals under the legal gambling age of 21 gained access to Mount Airy’s casino floor and gambled: an 18-year-old male who gambled at two slot machines, an 11-year-old female who played at 11 slot machines while both of her parents were present and cashed two vouchers, and two 13-year old females who also gambled at the slot machines with their mother.

As a result of the three incidents, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board fined Mount Airy a total of $160,000 in penalties. The other $100,825 of the total fine was a result of the casino failing to timely fine 32 corporate or individual renewal applications by the statutorily-mandated due dates.

For Adults Only

Each of Pennsylvania’s 16 land-based casinos requires valid identification for entry. These casinos scan state-issued Driver’s Licenses and other qualifying proof of identification to confirm the validity of the ID to ensure that the person entering the property is not on a self-exclusion or involuntary exclusion list.

According to state law, casinos must post a signage at their entrances that inform guests that only persons aged 21 or older are allowed to gamble. Per policy, the signage should read as:

“It is unlawful for any individuals under 21 years of age to enter or remain in any area where slot machines or table games are operated. It is unlawful for any individual under the age of 21 to wager, play, or attempt to play a slot machine or table game. Individuals violating this prohibition will be removed and may be subject to arrest and criminal prosecution.”

While Pennsylvania casinos are allowed to have minors inside their premises, these minors have to be escorted across a gaming floor and are given wristbands to identify themselves as such.

The PGCB did not reveal whether appropriate charges were filed against the underage individuals who were caught gambling at Mount Airy Casino Resort, nor whether the parents of the young girls were formally charged.
