Paul Fury

  • Jake Paul and Nate Diaz verbally agreed to an MMA match following Paul’s boxing win this past Saturday.
  • According to oddsmakers at Bovada, Diaz is not the betting favorite to face Paul next, though. Rather, Tommy Fury and Paul are favored to meet in a rematch.
  • In February, Fury beat Paul to hand the social media and internet personality the first loss of his boxing career.

Despite Jake Paul and Nate Diaz agreeing to an MMA fight, the odds don’t favor a rematch in the near future. Bovada’s opening odds for Paul’s next opponent is a familiar foe, as Tommy Fury is the favorite at +110. On February 26, Fury defeated Paul by split decision in what was regarded as an upset.

Paul was a -170 betting favorite to beat Fury in the first showdown in Saudi Arabia. He had +225 odds to finish Fury by TKO. That is not how the fight would unfold, though.

The professional boxer edged out Paul for a win at +140. It wasn’t a dominant performance, but an example of how Paul has work to do before he challenges any reputable pro boxer for a win.

Does Paul really need to fight against “real” boxers to prove a point, however? He’s making a fortune on these crossover fights, so probably not. Fury barely qualifies as a pro.

In his post-fight press conference, Paul indicated that he doesn’t have his mind on Conor McGregor and would rather see him in rehab. He rattled off names he’d rather fight, including an MMA-style fight versus Diaz. Paul also mentioned Canelo Alvarez.

Canelo Potential Opponent

Perhaps when Canelo is at the end of his career and has nothing else to do, he’ll fight Paul. Last year, the Mexican boxing star was asked about a potential fight against the younger Paul brother.

Canelo said maybe in two years that they might be able to clash. He wants to see Paul improve as a boxer first, though.

“Maybe in two years we could talk about that. Maybe [the fans] would love me knocking him out. I hope he gets a lot better and does a great job. I hope he takes it seriously.”

Currently, Canelo has the seventh-best odds of being Paul’s next foe at +2500 odds. It would be incredibly shocking if that bet wins.

Paul is disregarding McGregor, and the Irishman has the second-best odds at +950. Most likely, talking trash about McGregor is undoubtedly a seed that Paul is planting for a future fight. The Paul brothers like to keep their options open and feuding with any potential opponent isn’t a bad approach.

Jake Paul Hyping Up Rematch Versus Tommy Fury

Before his dance with Diaz this past weekend, Paul was hard at work promoting a rematch against Fury. According to Paul, Fury would be dead if they ever met in the streets.

“If it was man for man, when he was down on the canvas, I would have gotten on top of him and beat the s— out of him in a street fight. He’s still my son. He was the one saying that I was gonna go to the canvas, all of these things, but if we were in an alleyway, he would be dead right now.”

Paul can’t possibly believe all of this, but he is doing a fine job keeping Fury in the news. He may not be the best boxer in the world. However, he’s still a master marketer who knows a rematch is likely on the horizon.

Most fringe and crossover boxers would gladly accept an offer from Paul to cash in big. While Fury is a professional boxer, he is not amongst the top fighters in the world. In fact, Fury isn’t even in the Top 30. Currently, Fury is ranked 39th in the WBC cruiserweight division.

The native of Manchester owns a perfect record of 9-0 with nine KO’s. That being said, he has largely picked on bottom talent throughout his career. Fury is probably better known in the UK for his time on the reality TV show Love Island than boxing.

Fury The Only Fighter To Beat Jake Paul

Paul was a perfect 6-0 prior to his meeting with Fury in February. He suffered his first loss in boxing against Fury by split decision.

Fury is the first pro boxer that Paul has faced in his boxing career. After beating former NBA player Nate Robinson with a vicious knockout, Paul moved on to MMA fighters.

The ‘Problem Child’ defeated Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley twice, and Anderson Silva. That was when Paul wanted to add a win to his resume over a boxer. Despite boxing since a young child, Fury was still the underdog in the bout.

Fury would get worked by the top-ranked cruiserweights, but he has considerably more experience than the 26-year-old Paul. We will see if a rematch offers anything different.

Fury Favored Over KSI In October

Before a rematch happens between Fury and Paul, an all-British bout between KSI and Fury fight is scheduled at the AO Arena in Manchester, England, on Saturday, October 14. KSI has a record of 5-0-1 in his boxing career.

The YouTuber has faced Logan Paul twice, with a draw and most recently a win in 2019. However, he has never faced his younger brother. In any event, KSI will have an opportunity to beat the only fighter that has beaten Jake in the ring.

At BetUS, Fury is heavily favored to win the bout. He is a -350 betting favorite, while KSI has +230 odds to pick up the win. The -350 odds gives Fury an implied probability to win of 77.8 percent.

Fury is also the favorite in the rumored rematch against Paul. After winning as an underdog, Fury opened as a -150 betting favorite to win the potential rematch. Currently, Paul has +120 odds to even the score with a win over the Brit.
