Albert Pujols What Are The Odds MLB

  • Albert Pujols is just six bombs away from reaching the 700 career home run plateau.
  • With 694 career homers, Pujols is currently 5th on the all-time home runs list.
  • According to Bovada, Pujols is a -300 to hit over 700 home runs at Bovada.

Albert Pujols only has 15 home runs this season but after hitting 8 last month, he has put himself in a position to finish his legendary career with 700 career home runs.

The Machine has not homered this month and has gone without a bomb in his last four games played. But with still more than enough game left in the St. Louis Cardinals who have erected a 7.5 games lead over the slumping Milwaukee Brewers in the race for the NL Central Division.

With his experience as a two-time world series champion and one-time NLCS MVP, Pujols will most definitely come in handy in the postseason. But before he plays a key role for the Cardinals in the playoffs, he is on a mission to join that elite 700-home run club.

Historic 694th Home Run

Pujols now has a career total of 694 home runs, 5th most of all time, and just two off Alex Rodriguez’s 694. His 694th home run was historic as it made him the first MLB hitter to hit a home run against 450 different pitchers, including five who have been enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame: Randy Johnson, Greg Maddux, John Smoltz, Trevor Hoffman, and Mike Mussina.

The 42-year-old from the Dominican Republic is playing in his final MLB season. The league has given him a well-deserved retirement tour, naming him as an honorary All-Star this season along with Detroit Tigers’ Miguel Cabrera. Pujols was also given the opportunity to participate in the 2022 Home Run Derby where he fell home runs short of eventual winner Juan Soto in the semifinal round.

For his legendary career, Pujols has 3,362 hits, 6,159 total bases, 2,190 RBIs, 1600 runs scored, and of course 694 home runs. Pujols also joins Hank Aaron, Alex Rodiguez, Wilie May, Rafael Palmiero, Miguel Cabrera, and Eddie Murray as the only players in the history of MLB to have at least 500 home runs ad 3,000 base hits.

Pujols’ Odds to Hit 700 or More Home Runs Now Better

After Pujols hit his 694th bomb, William Hill gave him the odds of +140 to finish with 694 to 696 home runs, +140 odds to end his career with 697-699 dingers, +650 to retire with 701+ home runs, and a +900 to ride into the sunset with exactly 700 homers hit. Meanwhile, Bovada was more optimistic about the Machine. The said sportsbook listed him at -1300 to go over 697.5 home runs, -350 to go over 699.50, +325 to end his career with over 701.5, and a +1200 to go over 703.5 home runs at the end of the season.

Although the odds differ at the two sportsbooks, both are more positive than Bovada’s August 25th odds board which had The Machine listed at -2000 NOT to hit the 700-home run mark and just a +900 to accomplish the feat. On the other hand, BetMGM had Pujols at -1600 to go under 700 home runs and +900 to go over that number last August 24th when he still had 693 home runs on his resume.

The Cardinals still have 29 games left to play and they are tied with the Seattle Mariners for the 2nd easiest remaining schedule in the league, with their remaining opponents owning an aggregate winning percentage of just .448. These include four games with the Washington Nationals who have allowed an MLB-leading 472 home runs this season and five games with the Chicago Cubs who have conceded the third-most home runs this year.
