2022-23 NHL Presidents’ Trophy Odds and Predictions

2022 23 Presidents Trophy Predictions And Odds

The team that ends the NHL Regular Season with the most Points is awarded the Presidents’ Trophy. Last year, the Eastern Conference’s Florida Panthers (68-18-6) won this trophy, ending with 122 points with strong Home (34-7-0) and Road (24-11-0) marks.

Alexander Barkov (88 points), Aaron Ekblad (57 points) and the Panthers (11/1 to win 2022 Stanley Cup, BetOnline) were swept out of the 2022 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs in Round 2 by their rivals, the Lightning with Florida only netting 3 goals (TBL 13 FLA 3).

The Presidents’ Trophy NHL winners the last 9 seasons have failed to go on to win the Stanley Cup and this mathematical award has gone to 18 different teams over the 35 years since its inception in the 1985-86 NHL Regular Season.

In fact, the team that has won the Presidents’ Trophy has only won the Stanley Cup eight times so far, with the last team to do so being Patrick Kane and the Chicago Blackhawks (200/1 to win 2022-23 Stanley Cup), so that’s nine straight years with the silverware.

Presidents’ Trophy NHL winners earn the Home-ice Advantage for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but with 16 good teams all skating on to the Postseason, it becomes a matter of surviving each game which sometimes comes down to just one period or one crucial shift.

All of the best NHL betting sites have the defending NHL Stanley Cup Avalanche as the favorites to win the NHL Presidents’ Trophy 2023, with popular online sportsbook BetOnline offering up Cale Makar and the Avalanche at 3/1 betting odds right now.

BoL also has 2022-23 NHL Hart Trophy candidate Maker and Colorado as 4/1 betting favorites to win the 2022-23 NHL Stanley Cup, an odds market we will handicap and dive into later this opening week.

Can Avs End Presidents’ Trophy Award Streak?

Can the Avalanche repeat as Presidents’ Trophy winners and become the first team in 10 seasons to win both the Presidents’ Trophy and the Stanley Cup? It’s never as easy as it seems and maybe having the highest Point total in the NHL annually is an icy albatross.

The oddsmakers second favorites to win the 2022-23 Presidents’ Trophy is the Toronto Maple Leafs (+850 to win Stanley Cup), and 2021-22 Hart Trophy winner Auston Matthews and the Maple Leafs are priced at +750 to end with the most Points this year.

Last season:
Toronto (54-21-7) finished with 115 points, and oddsmakers have Mitch Marner and the Maple Leafs as the favorites to win the Eastern Conference (+450 to in eastern Conference) and at +750, are the second favorites in this betting market. The Panthers (12/1 to win Stanley Cup) are also priced at +750 (15/2 Fractional) to win the NHL Presidents’ Trophy 2023, and last 2021-22 NHL Regular Season, Florida won the Presidents’ Trophy, and rewarded its betting backers at 15/1 Futures Preseason odds. Two other Eastern Conference teams who are worth some consideration in the NHL Presidents’ Trophy betting market are the Lightning (12/1 to win Stanley Cup), and Hurricanes (14/1 to win Stanley Cup). TB ended with 110 points while the Canes had 116.

But that’s about it for the Eastern Conference in terms of serious contenders to end with the most Points in the NHL? The Maple Leafs, Panthers, Lightning and the Hurricanes/ Nope. Don’s sleep on the Rangers possibly getting over 115 points and snagging the PT.

With 2022 Vezina Trophy winner and maybe the best Goaltender in the NHL right now in Igor Shesterkin, the Broadway Blueshirts went 52-24-6 last Regular Season, earning 110 points and getting all the way to the 2022 Eastern Conference Finals where they lost.

But the best bet in the NHL Presidents’ Trophy Futures market for me is backing Nathan MacKinnon and the Avalanche (4/1 to win Stanley Cup) and expecting the first team since the Blackhawks nine years ago to win both the Presidents’ Trophy and the Stanley Cup.

Remember a couple of things here. First, Colorado plays in the Western Conference, and navigating the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs in the West is a helluva lot easier than surviving the piranha-infested waters of the East where Round 1 matchups seem like Finals.

Last season:
In the Eastern Conference, we saw Florida-Washington, Toronto-Tampa Bay, Carolina-Boston, and Carolina-New York Rangers colliding in Round 1 where three of the four series’ need to go the full (Best-of) 7 games to get an eventual winner. Another reason to like Colorado in this Futures market is that the Avalanche got off to a horrible start in the 2021-22 NHL Regular Season and didn’t wake up until mid-December. But when they did, they really woke up. No one had a better Winter-Spring than Colorado. Toss in a new Goaltender in former Rangers backup Alexandra Georgiev (15-10-2, 2.92 GAA) and the best Defensive pairing in the NFL in makar and Devon Toews (+52 Highest Rating among Defenseman in the last 30 years), and this will be a tough team to score on.

And Colorado inked MacKinnon to an 8-year contract extension and he finished with 88 points last year (32 goals, 56 assists) and was huge in the 2022 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, scoring 13 goals and ending with 24 assists—2nd-highest mark in Avalanche history.

Because Eastern Conference teams feed off of each other and might not be able to get to 115 points, the best in the West, Colorado should be NHL Presidents’ Trophy 2023 winners with around 116-122 points if they get off to a decent start this season.
