2023 F1 Hungarian GP Odds, Prop Bets and Race Winner

Hungarian GP

Betting on F1 takes another twist at the Hungarian Grand Prix this weekend as bettors seek value in prop bets and stay well clear of the Max Verstappen moneyline odds.

Verstappen is such a big favorite to win this race that online betting sites have created a sea of prop bets to deliver some great alternative choices to its players.

Therefore, F1 betting is focused not on the race winner this weekend, but other variables. After all, Verstappen has won eight of the 10 Grand Prix races already staged this season, and fellow Red Bull driver Sergio Perez has claimed the other two.

The Hungarian GP odds reflect Verstappen’s dominance. Red Bull won at the Hungaroring last year and should do so again. So, let’s take a look at what to expect from Formula One betting this weekend.

2023 F1 Hungarian Grand Prix Practice, Race Schedule

ScheduleDate
Practice 1Friday, July 21 (Track Time: 12:25 ESPN2)
Practice 2Friday, July 21 (Track Time: 15:40 ESPN2)
Practice 3Saturday, July 22 (Track Time: 11:25 ESPN2)
QualifyingSaturday, July 22 (Track Time: 14:55 ESPN)
Hungarian Grand PrixSunday, July 23 (Track Time: 13:55 ESPN)

The Hungarian Grand Prix 2023 will be shown live on ESPN on Sunday. Practice sessions and Saturday’s qualifying are available to viewers on ESPN2. The race schedule follows the usual format, with no sprint race here.

Friday sees the teams test their cars in two free practice sessions. Expect to see the McLarens impress here, while Verstappen is likely to top at least one of the two sessions.

Saturday’s FP3 session will be slightly different. Here, teams use practice as an opportunity to fine-tune their cars ahead of qualifying. There’s little interest in tracking data points from Friday that feed into Sunday’s race strategy. Instead, it’s all about raw speed and getting the balance right on the car to lap as fast as possible.

If you’re new to accessing F1 bets, then qualifying is a great way to get into the action before the big race. Right now, the F1 odds point to Red Bull at -350 having a winning car in qualifying. Those are short odds, but the wager is almost guaranteed to pay out, given how good Verstappen and Perez’s cars are this year.

2023 F1 Hungarian Grand Prix Prop Bets

MyBookie provides us with the following prop bets to consider wagering on this race weekend:

Pole Position Betting

Verstappen is the -250 favorite to secure pole position at the Hungarian GP, but there is value looking at other cars here. The most obvious is Perez, Verstappen’s teammate who has the same machine to play with. Perez has been on poll twice this year and is due another stellar Saturday. At +1100, he is a great price to beat Verstappen to pole.

Elsewhere, Norris will hope he can replicate his excellent drive at Silverstone and secure a front row start on Sunday. The McLaren driver is well priced at +2000 in the F1 betting odds to be on pole.

Sergio Perez

Daniel Ricciardo Prop Bets

Daniel Ricciardo returns to F1 in the Alpha Tauri this weekend, after Nyck de Vries was fired. Ricciardo, 34, is one of the sport’s best racers and has a chance to show his worth, even if it’s in an inferior car.

Ricciardo won’t win the Hungarian GP and sportsbooks think he’s most likely to retire first at +900. But the big bet here is on Ricciardo securing points for Alpha Tauri.

A points finish at +240 is more realistic than Guanyu Zhou, Kevin Magnussen, Logan Sargeant, Nico Hulkenberg, and Valtteri Bottas, according to BetUS. That shows just how highly Ricciardo is thought of, and his odds could swiftly change if he impresses during Friday practice.

Winning Margin

If you need an indicator how dominant Verstappen has been this season, his average winning margin across his eight race victories is 11 seconds. Red Bull is just too fast, too nimble, and too good for the other cars.

If we assume the Dutchman wins the Hungarian Grand Prix, then a great prop is to look at the winning margin. Over 12 seconds is priced at -165, but a margin between 6 and 12 seconds – which falls into Verstappen’s average – is a far more attractive price of +300.

While much of Saturday’s focus across F1 betting sites will be on qualifying, recent history suggests we need to look beyond pole position when figuring out how Sunday’s race will pan out. The pole sitter has failed to win three of the last four Hungarian Grands Prix.

This is a race that Verstappen should win, but he’s not guaranteed to top Saturday qualifying. Look out for McLaren pushing hard on their revamped car, and Mercedes will hope to be in the mix for the front row.

The race itself will be fascinating if Verstappen fails to grab pole. Assuming he does, the betting attention will fall back to the middle of the pack and the fight for podium spots. The McLaren should impress over Mercedes and Aston Martin, while there’s really no telling how Ferrari will fare.

This leaves Alpine as the assumed also-rans in Hungary. But Esteban Ocon won here two years ago and team leader Otmar Szafnauer insist they’re not panicking about their championship position just yet.

Stagnation is a concern in this French team and there will be intense scrutiny on their drivers over the weekend.

2023 F1 Hungarian Grand Prix Best Pick

If you’re seeking a Hungarian Grand Prix betting pick, then look no further than McLaren. Norris’ Silverstone performance showed just how good the car’s new upgrades are. Oscar Piastri arguably deserved a podium finish in England, too. Now’s the time for McLaren to strike while the iron is hot.

Verstappen should win at the Hungaroring, but Norris is a great bet at +250 to finish on the podium. Add Piastri for a top-six finish and Verstappen to win into your parlay and you’ve suddenly got a profitable bet on your hands.
