The Purdue Boilermakers are the team to beat in the East Region. They are the No. 1 seed and favored to win the East. For Purdue, it all comes down to the production of one man: Zach Edey.

The Sporting News’ National Player of the Year3 is the focal point for the Boilermakers on both ends of the floor. Edey uses all his 7’4” frame to average 22.3 points and 12.8 rebounds per game4.

The Purdue offense is not complicated, but it is not easy to stop when Edey establishes himself in the paint. He uses his wingspan to clean up the boards and score high percentage shots for a field goal percentage of 60.6%5.

This was supposed to be a rebuilding year for the Boilermakers. However, they went 30-5 and won the Big Ten Championship. Purdue had to hold on against the upset-minded Penn State Nittany Lions for a 67-65 win on Sunday.

My problem is not with Edey. Purdue needs better guard play. They are too one-dimensional with Edey around the rim.

If Purdue can’t get the ball to Edey, the offense looks out of sync and lost. Against a well-balanced team with quality guards, Purdue might find it difficult in the NCAAM Tournament.

A team to consider in the East Region is the surging Marquette Golden Eagles. Marquette has won nine straight games and 14 of their previous 15 attempts. During their run to the Big East Championship, Shaka Smart’s group defeated ranked UConn and Xavier6.

The No. 2 seed Golden Eagles averaged 79.9 points per game for 19th in the NCAA. They have a potent core in the backcourt. There are three guards averaging more than 12 points per game for Marquette7.

The Golden Eagles are a team that might surprise a few people. Tyler Kolek has not gotten much attention in the media, but he should be in the spotlight this March. With NCAAM Tournament odds of +475, Marquette is worth considering.

There are three teams that stick out in the Midwest Region. If you want to take a chance on a long shot at +1000, consider the Texas A&M Aggies. They are better than their seeding suggests at No. 7.

Despite getting blown out by Alabama in the SEC Championship, the Aggies beat the Crimson Tide in the regular season finale, 67-61. They finished with a respectable record of 25-10 in a tough conference.

The Midwest Region will likely come down to the Houston Cougars and Texas Longhorns. The two Texas schools are on a collision course in the Midwest Region.

This region might come down to the health of Marcus Sasser. The ultra-talented guard exited the floor in the AAC semifinals after suffering a groin injury against Cincinnati8.

The Cougars handled their business and advanced to the AAC Championship. However, his absence was evident in a 10-point loss to Memphis.

Sasser claims that he should be 100% to open the NCAAM Tournament9. If this is true, then Houston will be tough to beat in the Midwest Region.

The Cougars are going into the Big Dance at 31-3 on the season. They were destined for the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament before Sasser left the AAC Tournament.

Houston’s unrelenting defense resulted in 56.5 points against per game. They were the second-best team in the NCAA in this regard10. If Sasser is healthy, Houston has a fairly clear path to the Final Four.

You are going to find a lot of March Madness brackets with Alabama as the winner this year. An early loss for the Crimson Tide would set many brackets up in flames.

Alabama might have the best player in the country with Brandon Miller. His legal issues aside, Miller is a talented player with a bright future in the NBA.

If Miller stays out of trouble, he will be a contributor at the next level. The 6’9” freshman is averaging 19.6 points and 8.3 rebounds per game for the Crimson Tide.

The Arizona Wildcats are one of the only teams in the South Region that can put a body on Miller. Stopping him completely is out of the question, but disrupting him enough with Azuolas Tubelis is possible.

Tubelis leads Arizona with 19.8 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. The native of Lithuania leads a Wildcats team that is fifth in the NCAA with 82.7 points per game11.

Arizona is heating up at the right time going into the NCAAM Tournament. They are coming off a 61-59 win in the Pac-12 Championship over the team favored to win the West Region, UCLA. With their NCAAM Tournament odds at +400 to win the South, there is some solid value on the Wildcats.

If you are looking for some longshots, the South Region has two of our top Cinderella teams in Utah State and Furman.

The West Region is the most stacked in the 2023 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. Any team from UCLA to Arkansas could come out of the West.

For a long shot pick, TCU might be worth looking at. The Horned Frogs’ defense can carry them and, if their shots are falling, they can beat anyone in the West.

Kansas fans were upset that they did not receive the No. 2 overall seed over Houston. This difficult region is the reason why. That said, Kansas can still go back to the Final Four in 2023.

It is hard to count Kansas out with Jalen Wilson on the floor. Wilson has a chance to take the tourney over for the Jayhawks. The dynamic 6’8” forward deserves all the same attention that Brandon Miller is receiving.

He leads the Jayhawks with 20.1 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. When Wilson is getting help from his supporting cast, Kansas can be almost as good as their 2022 National Championship squad.

For the Jayhawks to be successful, Dick must connect from three. He is shooting 44.1% from the field, and an impressive three-point percentage of 39.9%12.

However, Dick and others disappeared against Texas in the Big 12 Championship. Wilson showed up, but his supporting cast was non-existent. Look for that to change

With that dud out of the way, expect Kansas to get back to form in the NCAAM Tournament. They are going to be a dangerous team come tournament time.

In a NCAAM Tournament that is going to be wide-open, Alabama and Houston do not offer value. They have the talent to win, but at +500, those aren’t the best NCAAM Tournament betting odds.

Consider looking at the teams with NCAAM Tournament odds +1000 or higher. If it means anything to you, and it should, the team that wins the West Region will be the most battle-tested squad in the Final Four.

For the first time since 2007, we might have back-to-back NCAA National Champions13. Look for the loss in the Big 12 Championship to be an important learning moment for Kansas.

With Bill Self back following a medical procedure, the team should be in good hands14. In the end, expect Jalen Wilson to put the Jayhawks back to the biggest stage in college basketball.
