NFL 2023 Week 1 Predictions And Odds

On Thursday, September 7, 2023, the Detroit Lions head to Arrowhead Stadium to open the 2023-24 NFL season against the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. The road to Super Bowl 58 continues on Sunday, with a full slate of NFL action in the afternoon and evening.

We are taking a comprehensive look at the updated NFL Week 1 odds and a pick for every matchup on the board at Bovada. There isn’t much time remaining to do research for your Week 1 NFL betting strategy.

There will be stronger bets that you are more confident in than others. Shortlist a handful of selections that you like the most from our Week 1 picks, and then lock them in at the best NFL betting sites.

To help assist you through all the Week 1 NFL betting lines, head below to check out our final predictions for the opening weekend in the NFL.

Detroit Lions vs. Kansas City Chiefs Odds

TeamSpreadMoneylineTotal
Detroit Lions+6.5 (-105)+240Over 54 (-110)
KC Chiefs-6.5 (-115)-290Under 54 (-110)

The point spread and the total remains the same from the NFL Week 1 odds in June. The moneyline has moved slightly in favor of the Chiefs. Otherwise, the Lions vs. Chiefs odds haven’t changed in months, despite Kansas City likely seeing a lot of money from the public.

Our opinion on this match hasn’t been altered, either. The Lions should cover the spread, but expect the Chiefs to find a way to win late at home.

Look for Jared Goff and the surging Lions to keep this one close. The Lions’ offensive line should allow them to move the ball consistently on the Chiefs’ mediocre defense.

This is a defense that may be without standout defensive lineman Chris Jones. In search of a new contract, he has continued to hold out through training camp and the preseason.

The last time Goff and Patrick Mahomes met, Goff led the Los Angeles Rams to a 54-41 win in 2018. We won’t have that high of a final score. However, more than 54 points will likely be on the board after four quarters.

  • Point Spread Bet: Detroit Lions +6.5 (-105)
  • Moneyline Bet: KC Chiefs (-290)
  • Over-Under Bet: Over 54 (-110)

Arizona Cardinals vs. Washington Commanders Odds

TeamSpreadMoneylineTotal
Arizona Cardinals+7.5 (-120)+265Over 38.5 (-110)
Washington Commanders-7.5 (+100)-330Under 38.5 (-110)

The Washington Commanders opened as 6-point favorites to beat the Cardinals. Over the last few months, the line has gradually moved up in favor of the Commanders. Fortunately, we grabbed the Commanders early, but we still like them at -7.5 points.

The Commanders are confident with what Sam Howell brings to the equation this season. At least against the Cardinals, we have confidence in Howell having a strong outing.

We have the Cardinals finishing last in the NFC West this season, and have a chance to finish dead last in the league.

As Kyler Murray enters the season on the PUP list and with Colt McCoy released from the club, Joshua Dobbs is expected to get the start for the Cardinals on the road. Dobbs and the offense should be under constant pressure throughout this one.

  • Point Spread Bet: Washington Commanders -7.5 (+100)
  • Moneyline Bet: Washington Commanders (-330)
  • Over-Under Bet: 38.5 (-110)

Carolina Panthers vs. Atlanta Falcons Odds

TeamSpreadMoneylineTotal
Carolina Panthers+3.5 (-105)+165Over 39.5 (-110)
Atlanta Falcons-3.5 (-115)-195Under 39.5 (-110)

The Panthers vs. Falcons odds have changed slightly for this NFC South Week 1 matchup at Bovada. Since June, the Falcons have inched up from a 3-point favorite to 3.5 points and -150 to -195 on the moneyline. Also, the total has dropped from 43 to 39.5 points.

Excitement will be in the air for Bryce Young’s debut, but it won’t matter. Look for another rookie to steal the spotlight in this matchup. The Falcons’ Bijan Robinson should look great against the Panthers on Sunday.

It will be difficult for the rookie QB to enter a hostile environment and win in his debut performance. Robinson and Tyler Allgeier will control the clock, as the Falcons dominate the time of possession and final score.

  • Point Spread Bet: Atlanta Falcons -3.5 (-115)
  • Moneyline Bet: Atlanta Falcons (-195)
  • Over-Under Bet: Under 39.5 (-110)

Cincinnati Bengals vs. Cleveland Browns Odds

TeamSpreadMoneylineTotal
Cincinnati Bengals-2.5 (-110)-140Over 48 (-110)
Cleveland Browns+2.5 (-110)+120Under 48 (-110)

The Cincinnati Bengals have not seen any jump in their odds to open the season with a win at Cleveland. The Browns are hanging in there as +2.5-point underdogs against their Ohio rivals from Cincinnati.

In Deshaun Watson’s first Week 1 outing as a Brown, expect a close opener between the Bengals and Browns. While the public is backing the Bengals, there hasn’t been any movement in the NFL Week 1 odds.

It is a tell-tale sign oddsmakers believe that this matchup will come down to the final minutes.

  • Point Spread Bet: Cleveland Browns+2.5 (-110)
  • Moneyline Bet: Cleveland Browns (+120)
  • Over-Under Bet: Over 48 (-110)

Houston Texans vs. Baltimore Ravens Odds

TeamSpreadMoneylineTotal
Houston Texans+9.5 (-110)+340Over 43.5 (-110)
Baltimore Ravens-9.5 (-110)-460Under 43.5 (-105)

Rookie C.J. Stroud is expected to make his first NFL start on the road against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1. Drafted with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Stroud has lofty expectations.

However, the Ravens’ defense should be able to confuse Stroud into making errors. This figures to be a double-digit blowout in Baltimore’s favor. Lamar Jackson shows the student how it’s done in Week 1 at home.

  • Point Spread Bet: Baltimore Ravens -9.5 (-110)
  • Moneyline Bet: Baltimore Ravens (-460)
  • Over-Under Bet: Under 43.5 (-105)

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Indianapolis Colts Odds

TeamSpreadMoneylineTotal
Jacksonville Jaguars-5 (-110)-225Over 45 (-110)
Indianapolis Colts+5 (-110)+185Under 45 (-110)

The point spread in this matchup has jumped from -3.5 to -5 over the last three months. Additionally, the total has shifted from 43.5 to 45 points at football betting sites.

The Jaguars will receive plenty of love from bettors at the betting window in Week 1. But, while we like the Jaguars to win the NFC South, Anthony Richardson might have a couple of surprises for the Jags in his NFL regular season debut.

In what should be closer than anticipated, consider the Colts to cover, and even spring the upset at Lucas Oil Stadium.

  • Point Spread Bet: Indianapolis Colts +5 (-110)
  • Moneyline Bet: Indianapolis Colts (+185)
  • Over-Under Bet: Under 45 (-110)

Las Vegas Raiders vs. Denver Broncos Odds

TeamSpreadMoneylineTotal
Las Vegas Raiders+4 (-105)+175Over 44.5 (-105)
Denver Broncos-4 (-115)-210Under 44.5 (-115)

The Las Vegas Raiders and Denver Broncos open up the season with an AFC West battle in Colorado. Both teams should view this as a winnable spot in Week 1. The Broncos are up to -4 after opening as 3.5-point favorites to cover at home.

Russell Wilson and the Broncos have a lot more to lose than Jimmy Garoppolo does in the season opener. After a horrible start to his career in Denver last year, expect Wilson and the Broncos to look to prove something in Week 1.

  • Point Spread Bet: Denver Broncos -4 (-115)
  • Moneyline Bet: Denver Broncos (-210)
  • Over-Under Bet: Over 44.5 (-105)

San Francisco 49ers vs. Pittsburgh Steelers Odds

TeamSpreadMoneylineTotal
San Francisco 49ers-2.5 (-110)-140Over 41 (-105)
Pittsburgh Steelers+2.5 (-110)+120Under 41 (-115)

The San Francisco 49ers fly to Pennsylvania to open the season far away from home. As a Super Bowl contender, the 49ers are among the best teams in the NFL this season.

This might be a tougher spot than many football fans anticipate. The Steelers are a solid upset bet to win the AFC Championship. However, the 49ers should solve Kenny Pickett in this tough opener in Pittsburgh.

  • Point Spread Bet: San Francisco 49ers -2.5 (-110)
  • Moneyline Bet: San Francisco 49ers (-140)
  • Over-Under Bet: Under 41 (-110)

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Minnesota Vikings Odds

TeamSpreadMoneylineTotal
Tampa Bay Buccaneers+6 (-110)+215Over 45.5 (-110)
Minnesota Vikings-6 (-110)-260Under 45.5 (-110)

We are anticipating that the Minnesota Vikings regress in the NFC North following a 13-4 season in 2022. Although, they can’t lose to the Baker Mayfield-led Tampa Bay Buccaneers team at home, right?

Despite the Vikings finding it difficult to repeat in the NFC North, they should open the season with a victory at home. The defense will give up points, but Kirk Cousins and Justin Jefferson will take the game over in the fourth quarter.

  • Point Spread Bet: Minnesota Vikings -6 (-110)
  • Moneyline Bet: Minnesota Vikings (-260)
  • Over-Under Bet: Over 45.5 (-110)

Tennessee Titans vs. New Orleans Saints Odds

TeamSpreadMoneylineTotal
Tennessee Titans+3 (-105)+145Over 41.5 (-105)
New Orleans Saints-3 (-115)-170Under 41.5 (-115)

The New Orleans Saints welcome the Tennessee Titans to the Caesars Superdome. In his first start as a New Orleans Saint, Derek Carr should deliver at home.

However, this is likely to be a game that comes down to the final minutes. Expect a late field goal from the Saints to edge out the Titans in Week 1.

When we made our first bet three months ago, the Titans were getting 3.5 points. With the point spread currently at -3 points, we recommend looking for 3.5 or wait for a better line.

  • Point Spread Bet: Tennessee Titans +3 (-105)
  • Moneyline Bet: New Orleans Saints (-170)
  • Over-Under Bet: Over 41.5 (-105)

Los Angeles Rams vs. Seattle Seahawks Odds

TeamSpreadMoneylineTotal
LA Rams+5.5 (-110)+195Over 46 (-110)
Seattle Seahawks-5.5 (-110)-235Under 46 (-110)

The Los Angeles Rams open the 2023 NFL campaign on the road against the Seattle Seahawks. Prior to last year, a matchup against Geno Smith wasn’t viewed as being a concern for opponents.

However, Smith finally reached his potential nine years after being drafted by the New York Jets in Round 2 of the 2013 NFL Draft. Ultimately, he captured the 2023 NFL Comeback Player of the Year for his standout effort. The 32-year-old was rewarded with a three-year contract worth up to $105 million.

Smith’s contract might return to hurt the Seahawks in a couple of years. Nevertheless, Seattle likely covers and wins in a low-scoring divisional showdown over Matthew Stafford and the Rams.

  • Point Spread Bet: Seattle Seahawks -5.5 (-110)
  • Moneyline Bet: Seattle Seahawks (-235)
  • Over-Under Bet: Under 46 (-110)

Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants Odds

TeamSpreadMoneylineTotal
Dallas Cowboys-3.5 (+100)-175Over 46 (-115)
NY Giants+3.5 (-120)+150Under 46 (-105)

The Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants meet in a classic NFC East rivalry game on Sunday Night Football in Week 1. The Cowboys have slid up slightly from 3-point to 3.5-point favorites in this primetime rivalry showdown at MetLife Stadium.

While we are on the Cowboys to win the NFC East, this looks like a tough start on the road in Week 1. The Giants are improved and will be motivated to beat their bitter rivals in the season opener at home.

  • Point Spread Bet: New York Giants +3.5 (-120)
  • Moneyline Bet: New York Giants (+150)
  • Over-Under Bet: Over 46 (-115)

Green Bay Packers vs. Chicago Bears Odds

TeamSpreadMoneylineTotal
Green Bay Packers+1 (-110)+120Over 43.5 (-105)
Chicago Bears-1 (-110)-120Under 43.5 (-115)

There aren’t many people who expect the Green Bay Packers to succeed this season. For the first time since 2008, Aaron Rodgers is not QB1 in Green Bay.

The odds suggest that the Packers won’t make the playoffs. That said, we believe that the Packers can surprise a few people with Jordan Love under center.

Expect the Packers to be competitive in Week 1. Being competitive won’t be enough, though, as the Packers fall versus an improved Bears squad at Soldier Field.

  • Point Spread Bet: Chicago Bears -1 (-110)
  • Moneyline Bet: Chicago Bears (-120)
  • Over-Under Bet: Under 43.5 (-115)

Miami Dolphins vs. Los Angeles Chargers Odds

TeamSpreadMoneylineTotal
Miami Dolphins+3 (-105)+145Over 51 (-105)
LA Chargers-3 (-115)-170Under 51 (-115)

The Los Angeles Chargers inched higher from their opening NFL Week 1 betting odds. Now, the Chargers are -3 favorites after opening as a 2.5-point favorite.

The Dolphins and Chargers should be one of the most entertaining NFL Week 1 matchups on the schedule. On their best days, the Dolphins and Chargers can beat anyone in the NFL. However, the Dolphins are currently dealing with a plethora of injuries.

This Sunday, consider siding with Justin Herbert and the Chargers to win by a touchdown as short favorites at home. Additionally, the Dolphins and Chargers should point to the Over in a shootout.

  • Point Spread Bet: Los Angeles Chargers -3 (-115)
  • Moneyline Bet: Los Angeles Chargers (-170)
  • Over-Under Bet: Over 51 (-105)

Philadelphia Eagles vs. New England Patriots Odds

TeamSpreadMoneylineTotal
Philadelphia Eagles-4 (-105)-195Over 44.5 (-110)
New England Patriots+4 (-115)+165Under 44.5 (-110)

Since the NFL Week 1 odds opened, the Eagles’ odds have regressed against the Patriots. Currently, the Eagles are 4-point favorites, down from a 5-point spread earlier this summer.

Are we going to see a Super Bowl hangover from the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023? Following a trip to the Super Bowl, the Eagles open their season in Foxborough against the New England Patriots.

The Eagles are going to be one of the best teams in the NFL. Nevertheless, this might be a spot where they get caught looking ahead. Expect the Patriots to show up and play well on the same day that they are honoring Tom Brady.

  • Point Spread Bet: New England Patriots +4 (-115)
  • Moneyline Bet: New England Patriots (+165)
  • Over-Under Bet: Under 44.5 (-110)

Buffalo Bills vs. New York Jets Odds

TeamSpreadMoneylineTotal
Buffalo Bills-2.5 (-110)-135Over 46 (-110)
New York Jets+2.5 (-110)+115Under 46 (-110)

The Bills opened as a small 1-point favorite over the Jets. There has been a shift in the odds, as the Bills are favored to beat the Jets by 2.5 points a week before kickoff.

In what has the potential to be the game of the week, Josh Allen and Rodgers collide under the lights on Monday Night Football. Certainly, the Jets have generated the most hype of any team in the offseason due to the Rodgers trade.

However, expect Allen and the Bills to spoil the party for Jets fans at MetLife Stadium. We foresee the Bills edging ahead late for a 4 to 6-point win over Rodgers and company.

  • Point Spread Bet: Buffalo Bills -2.5 (-110)
  • Moneyline Bet: Buffalo Bills (-135)
  • Over-Under Bet: Over 46 (-110)
